Laurence Scot, MBA, CPA

laurence-scot

Laurence Scot was born and raised in New York City, graduated with a BA in Political Science from Queens College and a MBA in accounting from Pace University and is Certified to practice in both New York and New Jersey. Prior to starting his own firm he held responsible accounting positions in such prominent organizations as the law firm of Shearman and Sterling, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and Coopers and Lybrand. Growing up in a family of small business owners (his grandfather was a general contractor, his father a real estate broker, his mother owned a dress store), Laurence was exposed to the workings of small business since he was a child. These life experiences created an inherent understanding and sensitivity to the importance of entrepreneurship and its impact on the economy.

Today, he services mostly Not-For-Profit organizations and is very active in the community — chairing Boards and donating time to various organizations. Laurence has a passion for teaching and has taught undergraduate and graduate classes, given variuous lectures to CPAs, Board of Directors, management, bankers and entrepreneurs and has been a guest speaker at numerous venues and forums for over 20 years.  He has created the first-of-its-kind, four course certificate program in “Not-For-Profit Accounting and Governmental Reporting” at NYU’s School of Continuing Professional Studies and recently a certificate in “Not-For-Profit Financial Management and  Reporting”.  And, several years ago he authored an easy-to-read desk reference book called “The Simplified Guide to Not-For-Profit Accounting, Formation and Reporting” (John Wiley, Publisher, 2010),
